MAYOR ED GAINEY STATEMENT ON 2024 ELECTION
At a time when the echoes of division are loud, we must remember that at our core, we all share in the hope of a brighter tomorrow. Whether we agree or disagree with the outcome of the 2024 election, our strength lies in our ability to listen, understand, and unite despite our differences.
That’s what my administration has worked to do in the City of Pittsburgh, and that is what we will continue to do as we forge ahead to create a city for all. Hatred and division will only hinder our progress, leaving chasms where bridges should be. In Pittsburgh, we will continue to choose love over fear. Communication over silence. Acceptance over hatred.
We will use every resource to protect residents in our 90 neighborhoods, ensuring they feel safe and welcomed. We will continue developing strategies to build opportunity infrastructure in our city so every resident can thrive. We will continue to mobilize value-aligned elected leaders to establish spaces where we encourage true unity, work to find common ground, and respect each other’s humanity.
In the coming days and weeks, I'll convene leaders from every part and sector of our city to ensure we have one vision and one plan for moving forward in a time of uncertainty. Our mission remains the same: We will always promote and protect the public good through excellent and equitable services for every resident and visitor.
Let’s use this pivotal moment in history to exercise empathy while we commit to building a city where every life, voice, and community matters and is valued. ~Mayor Ed Gainey
