PARKVIEW AVE TRAFFIC CALMING
Oakland to Receive Traffic Calming Measures
Pittsburgh, PA – Roadway Users traveling Parkview Ave. in Pittsburgh’s South Oakland neighborhood should be prepared for upcoming construction. The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) will begin traffic calming measure implementation on Parkview Ave. starting Wednesday, August 7th (weather permitting).
The traffic calming updates include speed humps and pedestrian improvements. Pedestrian improvements at Parkview and Swinburne include marked crosswalks, stop bars, and painted curb extensions for intersection daylighting. The aim of these measures is to improve safety for pedestrians by increasing visibility and reducing speeding.
“This is just the beginning of our work in Oakland to help make our streets safer for our residents,” said Mayor Ed Gainey. “These projects are being done in advance of the rehabilitation of the Charles Anderson and Swinburne Bridges which will begin work in the near future.”
This traffic calming project was selected after a traffic study concluded that 55% of motorists on Parkview Ave. exceed the 25mph speed limit with a max speed recorded of 60mph.
Roadway work is expected to begin on Wednesday August 7th and last roughly two (2) days. During speed hump construction for one (1) day, Wednesday August 7th. thru traffic will be encouraged to seek an alternative route, however, flaggers will be stationed to allow local traffic passage. Small travel delays are likely and should be anticipated.
