The Department of Permits Licenses and Inspections Announces Public Comment Period for Residential Housing Rental Permit Program
Pittsburgh –Today the Department of Permits Licenses and Inspections announced the opening of a public comment period for the new Residential Housing Rental Permit Program.
In 2023 the City of Pittsburgh passed legislation (Ordinance 2022-0270) amending the Pittsburgh city Code to include a permit for rental units. As a majority renter city, this legislation aims to protect and promote the health and safety of our residents by ensuring rental units in our City meet a basic standard of living conditions.
“Pittsburgh is a majority renter city, and that is why programs like these are essential,” said Mayor Gainey. “Rental Registration is the first step to ensuring that all of our residents have access to housing that is healthy and safe.”
The Rules and Regulations serve as the core of this program and outline how PLI will administer this permit including applicability, fees, penalties, registration requirements and processes, inspection requirements and processes, and the right to appeal.
PLI will be soliciting public comment and feedback for the next 60 days, starting on August 1, 2024, and ending on September 30, 2024. All comments should be submitted online here.
After the public comment period, PLI will review the provided feedback for at least sixty (60) days. We anticipate publishing and transmitting the final Rules and Regulations to the City Council on or about December 1, 2024.
