Northside Street Reopens After Full Rehabilitation
Chestnut Street Receives Complete Reconstruction
Pittsburgh, PA – Motorists travelling through Pittsburgh’s Northside will encounter a newly reconstructed roadway. Chestnut Street, the historic roadway connecting the Northside to Downtown, Troy Hill, and Spring Hill-City View, has been resurrected from prolonged deterioration.
The full reconstruction maintains the look of the historic brick surface but include modern ADA ramps as well as new sidewalks. f
“It's great to see such a comprehensive rehabilitation of Chestnut Street, one of our historic treasures. It fills me with pride to witness a community come together to preserve and celebrate what makes their neighborhood unique,” said Mayor Ed Gainey.
This project was chosen and selected for historical rehabilitation in part due to the support from council district one Councilman Bobby Wilson and the Community Alliance of Spring Garden – East Deutschtown.
The roadway closure has been lifted and Chestnut Street is now open to two-way traffic.
