Submit an application to create artwork highlighting environmental issues in Germantown.
The Waterway Arts Initiative is launching a new call for our Resident Artist Program at the Water Shed - a community-based hub for environmental resilience in Germantown. The Water Shed offers community-driven art, resources, education, and science.
We're seeking artists to create projects around environmental resilience in Germantown. All creative media are welcome.
We will select three artists. Each resident artist will span three months (winter 2026, spring 2026, and summer 2026 seasons).
This will include time for independent research, community-facing programs, and public hours at The Water Shed. Artists may apply individually or as part of a collaborative team.
During their residency, artists will be expected to:
- Participate in self-directed research
- Host 2 to 3 community-facing programs
- Deliver a culminating presentation
- Contribute a lasting element to the Water Shed for presentation for no less than a month following the Residency
Residents will also attend a Flooding 101 onboarding session, participate in bi-weekly check-ins with organizers, and join at least one meeting with Water Shed collaborators.
We're looking for residents with the following:
- An interest in The Water Shed project
- Enthusiasm to creatively engage with environmental issues in Germantown
- Experience working in the community
- Willingness to work collaboratively
- Experience producing creative outputs
- Experience producing creative events, workshops, or performances.
Deadline to apply is November 1, 2025!
Join a Zoom Info Session on October 9 from 1 to 2 p.m.
We will prioritize people with an established connection in Northwest Philly and/or those with direct experience with environmental justice and flooding.
The Water Shed is part of the Waterway Arts Initiative, which is a joint collaboration between the Philadelphia Water Department, Mural Arts Philadelphia, and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University.
