Welcome to the Philadelphia Water Department's (PWD) Construction Newsletter!
We'll send you information about upcoming PWD projects planned in your area. You will receive these emails every few months.
These messages will share upcoming or recently started projects in your Philadelphia Council District.
There are 10 Council Districts throughout Philadelphia. Your zip code falls into District 9.
Councilmember Anthony Phillips represents District 9. It represents parts of Northeast and Northwest Philadelphia, including Lawncrest, Oxford Circle, Fox Chase, and parts of East Oak Lane.
The zip codes receiving emails for Council District 9 are: 19111, 19114, 19115, 19120, 19126, 19138, 19150, 19152. Note: If your ZIP code falls into two CDs, you'll receive newsletters for both districts.

What types of infrastructure does PWD work on?
Water Mains
- Reliable mains mean fewer main breaks and damage to our roads. These mains ensure we're delivering safe drinking water to your home.
Sewer
- Sewers are replaced before breaks happen. Collecting and treating wastewater is our commitment to the health and vitality of our area.
Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI)
- These systems are installed to better manage stormwater overflows. Inlets and basins are added underground to soak up water runoff.

Project #20564 Tabor Road
Green stormwater infrastructure project and water main replacement project in Logan. This project will begin in Late 2025.

Project #20594 Walnut Park / 65th
Water main replacement project in East Oak Lane. This project is set to begin in Spring 2025.

Project #50283 Olney Rec Center
Green stormwater infrastructure project outside Olney Recreation Center. This project is expected to start in Late 2025.

Project #50327 Mount Airy Ave Green Streets
Green stormwater infrastructure project in Mt Airy. This project is in a pre-construction phase and is expected to start in 2025.

Direct Impact Area: Streets with active construction
- Open trenches in your street
- Loss of water throughout the work, with 24-hour notice given for any shutoffs lasting more than 30 minutes
- Closed blocks and temporary no parking, with access for residents
- Change in trash pick up locations
- Active construction with loud noises from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Rough temporary pavements during off-site water testing

Lead and Service Lines
Residential service lines are owned by the property owner. We estimate about 1 in 20 Philadelphia properties may have a lead service line.
During planned water main construction, we offer to replace any lead service line from our water main all the way to the customer’s meter. This service is offered free of charge.
