The Philadelphia Water Department is looking for a Spring 2022 Landscape Design Team Intern

The Philadelphia Water Department Green Stormwater Infrastructure Unit’s Landscape Design team is seeking a highly qualified undergraduate or graduate student with experience in any of the following academic departments:

Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Urban Design

• Position type: Part Time Internship - this position is available for actively enrolled students only. 
• Term: January 17–May 20, 2022
• Qualifications: Coursework or equivalent experience in plant identification and horticulture.

Job Description:
The intern will work closely with the Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Landscape Design staff within in the GSI Unit.

This team supports the City of Philadelphia's Green City, Clean Waters plan, one of the largest and most ambitious green stormwater initiatives in the U.S. 

The Landscape Design team’s primary responsibilities are design reviews, resource development, landscape contract management, data analysis, field research, and innovation to streamline the GSI Implementation Program.

The team also works closely with the GSI Planning, GSI Design, Green Stormwater Operations (Maintenance), and Construction groups.

The candidate will:

• Assist landscape architects, engineers, and city planners in the unit with ongoing efforts to plan, develop, and promote green infrastructure;
• Identify, design, and manage green infrastructure projects; and
• Research and implement innovative green stormwater management techniques.

While resources and field manuals will be provided, skills in tree identification and familiarity with regional plant species is necessary.

The Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) supplies drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater services to customers within the City of Philadelphia. The Department also has one wholesale water contract and 10 wholesale wastewater contracts with entities outside the City.

PWD maintains a network of more than 3,100 miles of water mains, 3,700 miles of sewers, six main treatment facilities, and dozens of pumping stations.
