The Philadelphia Water Department has two open positions for college students majoring in engineering and related fields.
These are paid, full-time positions for Summer 2021.

Engineering Internship Opportunity: Operations - Wastewater Treatment
Description:
- Assist Chemical and Environmental Engineers with Nitrification/Denitrification studies. Under the supervision of an engineer, collect samples and perform laboratory analysis.
- Troubleshoot and calibrate handheld devices as instructed by the manufacturer. Create/edit/modify Process Flow Diagrams. Routinely perform log sheet data entry and filing.
Engineering Internship Opportunity: Construction
Description:
- Engineering interns with the Construction Branch will perform tests and inspections of construction materials of public works projects being built by the Water Department to assure that work performed by contractors and manufacturers complies with contracts, plans and specifications and meets current standards for work quality.
- Interpreting construction, contract, and permit requirements, and informing contractors and superiors of nonconformity to contractual agreements and construction and permit violations are significant aspects for the work.

The Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) supplies drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater services to customers within the City of Philadelphia. The Department also has one wholesale water contract and 10 wholesale wastewater contracts with entities outside the City.
PWD maintains a network of more than 3,100 miles of water mains, 3,700 miles of sewers, six main treatment facilities, and dozens of pumping stations.
