Is your home prepared for the low temps coming our way? During the cold season, take action and protect your home’s plumbing from freezing. To help you learn how to prevent frozen pipes and avoid costly repairs, we made this “All About Frozen Pipes” Guide

 

Tips to do today:
  • Let faucet drip overnight when it’s below freezing 2 days in a row
  • Check your faucets for water flow and pressure
  • Disconnect garden hoses
Tips to do this week:
  • Wrap and insulate all water pipes in unheated areas
  • Cover broken exterior windows
  • Keep water meter area above 40F

If a pipe is damaged:

Shut off the water. Use the house-side valve, near your water meter.

If you do not have tap water and suspect your pipes may be frozen, we encourage you to call a plumber immediately to get the issue resolved. The Water Department cannot fix your pipes - even if they are outside your home. Instead, contact a licensed plumber using our database.
