During the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we know you may have questions about the safety and continued availability of drinking water and wastewater services.
We understand this is a stressful time for the communities we serve. Please know that we are here for you and taking all steps necessary to maintain safe, reliable water service in Philadelphia.
You can continue normal use of tap water. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends that Americans continue to use and drink tap water as usual, and our labs monitor water treatment around the clock to ensure the highest quality.
Here is a quick summary of the latest updates to impacted services:
-
Call Center: Call (215) 685-6300 24/7 for emergencies
No water: If you do not have water it is due to an emergency, water main break, or plumbing issue, or because you were shutoff in the past. We are not shutting customers off for nonpayment through May 15. Contact us immediately if you don’t have water.
-
Restoring water: We are restoring water where ever possible, starting with residential accounts. This may take some time because we are operating with reduced staff. We cannot restore water where doing so would cause unsafe conditions or damage property.
-
Notice of Defect: If your plumbing breaks and is causing an unsafe situation, you will receive a Notice of Defect and have water shut off. We are still processing HELP loans to arrange repairs, and you can still hire a licensed master plumber to make repairs on your own. Follow instructions on the notice.
-
Late fees/restoration fees: There are no late fees if you are unable to pay through May 15. There are no restoration fees if you need water restored at this time.
-
Construction: All non-emergency work is suspended. We have instructed crews to make work sites safe until construction can resume. If you think an inactive construction site is unsafe, please call (215) 685-6300 and we will investigate.
