Please join Philadelphia Water Department Commissioner Randy Hayman, local officials, and students from the James G. Blaine School on Monday, September 9 for a ribbon cutting to welcome Strawberry Mansion's newest green infrastructure site!
Other speakers include State Representative Donna Bullock (195th District) and Strawberry Mansion CDC President Tonnetta Graham.
Details:
-
WHAT: Berks & Sedgley Ribbon Cutting Ceremony + hands-on activities for students organized by Mural Arts Philadelphia!
-
WHEN: Monday, September 9, 2019, 3:30 p.m.
-
WHERE: Intersection of Berks Street, Sedgley Avenue, and 30th Street
About the Project:
Located across from the school at Berks Street and Sedgley Avenue, the large rain garden is part of a $1.6 million investment in the neighborhood that also includes nearby stormwater tree trenches and planters.
The rain garden was specially engineered to help calm traffic and reduce localized flooding at the intersection.
Featuring native plant species and trees, the new green stormwater tools can manage over 158,000 gallons of runoff during a 1-inch rainstorm, helping to reduce pollution from sewer overflows by millions of gallons a year.
Combined with the thousands of other green infrastructure systems now thriving in Philadelphia neighborhoods thanks to the Green City, Clean Waters program, the new landscaped features will help the city reduce sewer overflows by billions of gallons in 2019.
We're proud to have Strawberry Mansion contribute to this effort, and we want to thank the neighbors who worked with is and provided input at meetings, so please come out!
