Traffic Advisory UPDATE: I-95 South, Bridge Street Off-Ramp Remains Closed Due to Water Main Break/Sewer Defect
The following update is in regard to the May 6 water main break and sewer defect that resulted in the closure of the Bridge Street exit on southbound Interstate 95.
- The Philadelphia Water Department made repairs to the water main last night, and today continued to excavate to evaluate the extent of the compromise in the sewer.
- Upon completion of our physical inspection, we found there is a large hole in the top of the sewer that needs to be repaired.
- PWD is working with a contractor on the site now to have full access to the sewer so that City crews can make the necessary repairs as quickly as possible.
- PWD will be working with PGW and any other utility that may have work to do in this location prior to beginning the back-filling and paving process.
- Once all utilities are done working, PWD will utilize our contractor to make repairs to the road to reopen the Bridge Street Southbound exit on I-95. Until the ramp reopens, motorists should use the Aramingo Street exit as the alternate route.
- Repairs are expected to take a minimum of at least one week.
- Barring a change in this information, the next update will be shared on Sunday, May 12th.
