Township Advisory Board Vacancies
The Township of Lower Merion is seeking qualified Township residents to serve on the following advisory boards:
- Environmental Advisory Council: The Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) is composed of not more than 9 residents of the Township who serve 4-year terms of office. The EAC typically meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The EAC provides advice to the Board of Commissioners and Planning Commission for the promotion and conservation of natural resources and for the protection and improvement of the quality of the environment within the Township. Two members are being sought. Professional experience in green building design, clean energy transition, ecological landscape design, sustainability management, greenhouse gas reduction or energy efficiency is required. - Health Advisory Council: The Health Advisory Council (HAC) is composed of 5 to 7 members and 2 alternates who serve 4-year terms of office. The HAC typically meets on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The HAC recommends plans and programs to the Board of Commissioners for the protection of the public health of residents within the Township and also advises Township officials concerning matters of public health. One alternates is being sought. An alternate may participate in any proceeding or discussion of the HAC but shall not be entitled to vote as a regular member of the HAC unless needed to create a quorum. Professional experience in nursing, with preference for experience as school nurse, is required. - Human Relations Commission: The Human Relations Commission (HRC) is composed of 7 members and 2 alternates who serve 3-year terms of office. The HRC typically meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of every other month. The purpose of the HRC is to ensure that all persons, regardless of race, color, religious creed, ancestry, age, sex, national origin, physical or mental disability, use of guide or support animals because of the blindness, deafness or physical or mental disability of the user or because the user is a handler or trainer of support or guide animals, or because of a person's sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression enjoy the full benefits of citizenship and are afforded equal opportunities for employment, housing, commercial property, and the use of public accommodations, in Lower Merion Township. Two members and two alternates are being sought. An alternate may participate in any proceeding or discussion but shall not be entitled to vote as a regular member unless seated. Professional experience in equal opportunity laws, investigation of complaints, dispute resolution including mediation, or as a human relations professional is required. - Shade Tree Commission: The Shade Tree Commission (STC) is composed of not more than 9 members who serve 5-year terms of office. The STC typically meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. In conjunction with the Township Arborist, the STC has custody and control of all shade trees on Township property and all shade trees on the public streets and highways in accordance with the published rules and regulations of the Township. Professional experience in arboriculture, forestry, landscape design/architecture or real estate, environmental or municipal law is required. Gas Powered Leaf Blower Restriction
The Lower Merion Board of Commissioners, as part of the Township's effort to create a cleaner and quieter community for our residents, passed an ordinance to restrict the use of gas-powered leaf blowers. From June 1 to October 1, 2026, the use of gas-powered leaf blowers will not be permitted in Lower Merion Township.
LM Report-IT is the preferred method for reporting alleged ordinance violations. Complaints may also be made via email to bpcomplaints@lowermerion.org or by phone at 610-645-6124.
