Lower Merion Township Wins
2026 Governor’s Award
for Local Government Excellence
We are excited to share that Lower Merion Township has received the 2026 Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence in Innovative Planning and Sound Land Use Practices for the Ardmore House II Senior Affordable Housing Project.
Each year, the Governor’s Awards recognize local governments that have found creative ways to improve their communities. This award recognizes Lower Merion’s commitment to thoughtful land use planning as a means to expand affordable housing opportunities for residents.
This honor reflects our community’s dedication to planning that meets real needs. By transforming an underutilized surface parking lot into 48 units of senior affordable housing, Ardmore House II represents what’s possible when innovation and purpose come together.
Lower Merion Township extends its sincere thanks to our dedicated staff, government and non-profit partners, and community stakeholders whose hard work and collaboration made this achievement possible. The Township continues to advance forward-thinking approaches to housing and land use across the Commonwealth.

Expect your bill to arrive in your mailbox soon after.
Sanitary Sewer Facts:
The Board of Commissioners is considering a new Sewer Rate for 2026, scheduled for adoption at the May 20th Board of Commissioners Meeting.
The main driver of the increase in rates is the more than $1.2 million annual increase in projected costs payable to the Philadelphia Water Department for treating most of the Township’s sewage flow.
The Ordinance is advertised with a range of possible Sewer Rates between $5.19 and $5.30 per 1,000 gallons, an increase from the 2025 rate of $4.51 per 1,000 gallons.
If adopted this will be the first increase in the Township Sewer Rate since 2012.
If passed at the higher rate, a household using 150 gallons per day of water would see their annual sewer bill increase by $43 from $247 to $290.
- The sewer bill is a utility and is NOT paid by your mortgage company
- Pay within the first 60 days to receive a 2% discount
