Ashbridge House: Honoring History, Serving the Community
Lower Merion Township is bringing new life to one of its oldest landmarks. The Ashbridge House, built around 1769 and located in Ashbridge Memorial Park, is being restored and expanded to become the future home of the New Horizons Senior Center. The project carefully balances historic preservation with modern accessibility and energy efficiency. Crews are restoring the original stone structure and adding a small, compatible addition with upgraded restrooms, improved access, and sustainable mechanical systems powered by an energy-efficient heat pump.
During construction, workers uncovered a 200-year-old cistern, offering a fascinating glimpse into the site’s history. The Township preserved the find in place after review by the Historical Commission, which has guided the project to ensure the building’s historic character remains intact. Set for completion in late 2025, the Ashbridge House Project reflects Lower Merion’s commitment to preserving its heritage while creating vibrant, inclusive spaces that serve the community today and for generations to come.
A Holiday Refuse and Recycling Collection for the week of November 24th will be in effect due to the Thanksgiving holiday. There will be no refuse or recycling picked up on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

The service area includes homes located southeast of the Bala Cynwyd Library, from W City Avenue to N Highland Ave and from Old Lancaster Rd to Bryn Mawr Ave, plus homes on Stoneway Ln, Edgehill Rd, and Upland Rd. Only current Township waste subscribers are eligible to participate in the program. Multi-family, commercial, and institutional properties are not eligible. Fall Leaf Collection is Here!
Lower Merion Township will collect your leaves on your regular refuse pickup day if you place your leaves curbside in compostable paper bags; plastic bags will NOT be collected. Please only add leaf waste for collection. Grass clippings should be disposed of in the regular trash pickup and NOT in the compostable bags. Please do not rake or blow leaves into the street, dump them in township parks, or burn them. It’s prohibited and unsafe!
