 Electric Heat Pumps
One of the biggest ways you can help reduce pollution is by heating and cooling your home with a heat pump. Heat pumps use electricity to transfer heat from one place to another rather than burning fuel to create heat. There are a lot of common myths about heat pumps out there. If some of the myths are holding you back, continue reading:
❌MYTH: Heat pumps don't work in cold climates.
✅TRUTH: Heat pumps ARE capable of performing well in cold weather! Look no further than Maine, where a program run by the Efficiency Maine Trust has helped achieve one of the fastest uptakes of heat pumps in the country.
❌MYTH: What I do in my household doesn't matter.
✅TRUTH: Transitioning you home has a HIGH impact. Emissions from residential buildings are responsible for over 30% of the Lower Merion community's GHG emissions. Transitioning your home reduces GHG emissions, energy demand, and your energy costs!
❌MYTH: Heat pumps cost too much
✅TRUTH: The upfront price tag can appear higher than other options, but it's important to remember that heat pumps take on the job of numerous appliances - heaters, ACs, dehumidifiers, ceiling fans, and room air filters, and their high efficiency can reduce your energy costs. Also, there are federal tax credits currently available for heat pumps, and rebate programs in the works to lower the cost. Learn about rebates and credits here.
📋Make an Electrification Plan: Making a plan is the best first step to electrify your home. Use RewiringAmerica 's Personal Electrification Planner to make a long term plan that is specific to your home, location, and goals.
