The Plastic Bag Ban takes effect this month!
On January 21, 2024, Lower Merion Township retail establishments will no longer be allowed to provide customers with single use plastic carry-out bags. Retail establishments may provide compliant paper and reusable bags for a fee of at least $0.10 each. Township residents are encouraged to BYOB – Bring Your Own Bag – when shopping in the Township.
Have extra reusable bags? Throughout the month of January, you can drop them off at Bethel AME Church in Ardmore, Common Space in Ardmore, ElderNet in Bryn Mawr, or the sustainability table at the Bryn Mawr Farmer’s Market. Reusable bags will be cleaned and distributed to host locations for the Give-a-Bag, Take-a-Bag initiative – stay tuned for more details!
Retailers with excess single-use plastic bags after January 21 may donate them to ElderNet.
Presidental Campaign of 1896 & its connection to the Wizard of Oz
Monday, January 15th at 6:30 pm
Author Evan Weiner joins the library for a virtual presentation about the 1896 election & how it is long forgotten, but it has a lasting impact on political insiders more than 125 years later. It was the last election of the agriculture society and created the city versus rural divide. It was the first election of the industrial era and introduced big money into politics. The 1896 campaign may have also been the basis of the 1900 book by Frank Baum “The Wizard of Oz” and the 1939 movie of the same name.
