Each year new trees are planted on streets throughout Lower Merion Township. A priority is to replace trees that have been removed along Township streets. Property owners who would like to have a tree planted in the right-of-way on their property can contact the Township Arborist at 610-726-7141 or complete the form by clicking the blue button below. Thereafter, the Township Arborist will inspect the site to determine if it is suitable for a shade tree. All considerations are taken into account for whether a tree can be planted and if so, what species would be best.

Heat Pumps for Home Heating (and Cooling)
Switching to electricity for heating and cooling by using a single heat pump system is one of the most impactful steps a homeowner can take to reduce their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. Electric powered heating and cooling systems (heat pumps for short) are used widely in the US south to heat and cool. Improvements in design and efficiency have made them feasible in our climate.
The higher installation costs for heat pumps are offset in three ways: (1) Heat pumps are federally subsidized under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), (2) Heat pumps are much more efficient. Operating costs of heat pumps are competitive with or cheaper than oil and gas and (3) Heat pumps can be used for heating and cooling, potentially eliminating the need for two systems.
