 Commissioners Approve Partnership with Fireman's Association to Provide Training and Accreditation for Emergency Services Instructors
The Commissioners approved the hiring of two emergency services instructors at the Public Safety Training Center to help address the shortage of available accredited state Fire Academy Certified instructors.
Lancaster County is a hub for emergency services in South Central Pennsylvania. The addition of two emergency services instructors will allow for them to train more instructors and ultimately first responders both in Lancaster and the surrounding area.
Lancaster County Continues to Preserve both Farm & Farmer
The Board of Commissioners continued to approve Next Generation Farm Loans in what has been a record year for the program in the County. Throughout May and June a total of five Next Generation Farm Loans were approved by the Board of Commissioners. The Next Gen Farm Loan program aids beginning or first-time farm owners to obtain a low tax-exempt interest rate from their bank. The applications will head to the Department of Agriculture for final approval.
The Commissioners also approved the preservation of a farm in Fulton Township sitting on 39.11 acres. To date, there have been 1,653 farms preserved in Lancaster County totaling over 124,000 acres.
Board of Commissioners Meeting held in New Holland Borough
This month, the Board of Commissioners continued their tradition of hosting meetings across Lancaster County's 60 municipalities and held their June 11th meeting in New Holland Borough.
The Commissioners were joined by Former New Holland Borough Mayor Wilbur Horning, Council Member Bryant Glick and Borough Manager Richard Fulcher provided and update on what's happening in New Holland Borough and the impact of the Borough on America and Lancaster's history.

Lancaster County Office of Aging Hosts 35th Annual Senior Games
In May, the Office of Aging hosted their 35th Annual Senior Games.
The games, a weeklong event, provides the opportunity for Seniors in Lancaster County to compete in various events and participate in fitness classes, keeping them active and engaged.
This years games saw over 700 participants competing across nearly 50 events including Pickleball, Shuffleboard, Cornhole, Ladder Golf, Bocce, Axe Throwing, Weigh Lifting and more.
The 2026 Senior Games will be held May 4th through the 8th, 2026.

Commissioners Join Housing & Redevelopment Authority for Ribbon Cutting at Clay Street Shelter
This month the Lancaster County Commissioners joined the Lancaster County Housing and Redevelopment Authority for a ribbon cutting of the new Clay Street Emergency Shelter.
The shelter will provide a safe overnight place to sleep for individuals in the community experiencing homelessness.

Lancaster County Office of Aging Encourages Seniors to Participate in Mental Wellness Survey
The Lancaster County Office of Aging along with its aging mental well-being task force partners are conducting a survey to assist in determining the needs of our aging population regarding their mental well-being.
Results from the survey will be used to aid the Office of Aging in better serving the seniors of Lancaster County.
Responses to this survey are for statistical analysis purposes and will be kept in confidence by Lancaster County Office of Aging. No personal information will be shared with any parties.

Lancaster County Metropolitan Planning Organization Announces start of Unified Planning Work Program
The Lancaster County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) announces the start of the Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) for fiscal years 2025-2027. Beginning July 1, 2025 and running through June 30, 2027, this work plan lists transportation-related work tasks and resulting products to be completed during this time.
The UPWP contains tasks to build a safe, reliable, and multi-modal transportation network. This includes creating plans for our roadways, transit, and even specific areas that are important to transportation.

Lancaster County Veterans Affairs Plants Flags and Markers at Every Lancaster County Veteran Grave
The Lancaster County Department of Veterans Affairs spent the month of May working alongside local community organizations to plant grave flags and war markers at veterans' graves across the County.
The Veterans Affairs team inspected cemeteries to identify veteran graves, organized and conducted a mass distribution flags and markers and walked every cemetery in the County to ensure that all identified deceased Lancaster County Veterans were marked.
In total, the County distributed 37,745 flags and 2,000 war period markers in time for Memorial Day.
