Hunters: Mark Your Calendars!
Pennsylvania has three SUNDAY HUNTING dates for 2023 on Nov. 12, 19, and 26.
That’s right, an extra day in the woods on these weekends!
All game that is in season may be hunted on these Sunday dates except for turkeys and migratory game birds.
If you support opening more Sundays to hunt, contact your state representative and/or senator and ask them to support Senate Bill 67. This bill would give the Pennsylvania Game Commission full authority to regulate hunting on Sundays. Learn more here and find your legislators here.
Are you planning to hunt on Sundays on PRIVATE LAND? If so, reach out to the landowner and ask them to fill out the Sunday Hunting Landowner Permission Slip so you are all set for SUNDAY HUNTING! Find the permission slip in the Hunting & Trapping Digest on page 4 of the digest or click here.
Please note: Sunday hunting is permitted for foxes, coyotes, and crows during open seasons.
TWO New Episodes
Call of the Outdoors Podcast “Episode 36: Healthy Forests, Healthy Deer: Part 1 and Part 2" are AVAILABLE NOW. Listen here.
Our newest episode explores how the Pennsylvania Game Commission manages habitat for white-tailed deer and hundreds of other species on state game lands throughout Pennsylvania.

They discussed the challenges of maintaining young successional forests and how Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) permits can help balance deer populations for the future of our forests in this first installment of a two-part series.
The second installment of the two-part series explores how the Pennsylvania Game Commission manages white-tailed deer throughout Pennsylvania, from the effects of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), to harvest trends.
Pennsylvania Game Commission Deer and Elk Section Supervisor David Stainbrook joined Marketing Bureau Director and host Matt Morrett and they discussed the history of deer management in Pennsylvania and how the Game Commission sets license allocations to promote healthy deer herds and bigger bucks in the Keystone State.

Congratulations to successful fall turkey hunters so far!
Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Bryan Burhans enjoyed a successful day in the fall turkey woods this season with some great outdoorsmen and conservationists. Pictured here, from left: Tom Zerbe and his dogs, Martha and Rosie; Jeffrey Wallis; Hunter Wallis; Bryan and his dog, Tucker; Cruze Hosie; and Nate Hosie.
Reminder: Tag it. Report it. Your harvest counts! With the fall turkey season underway, (and already closed in some WMUs), we are reminding hunters to report within ten days of harvest, one of three ways:
- Online at huntfish.pa.gov.
- Calling 1-800-838-4431.
- Mailing a 2023-24 harvest report card to: PA Game Commission, Attn: Harvest Reports, 2001 Elmerton Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17110-9851.
Having trouble reporting online? Visit the Game Commission’s YouTube channel, or click here for a full how-to video.
Good Luck, Bear Hunters!
Good luck to Pennsylvania hunters participating in regular firearms bear seasons, which opens Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023.
Just a reminder: Successful bear hunters must have their bear checked by the Pennsylvania Game Commission within 24 hours.
Read the 2023-24 Hunting and Trapping Digest, pages 40-42, or visit pgc.pa.gov for a list of black bear seasons and check stations. During regular firearms season, check stations are open only on Saturday, Nov. 18, and Sunday Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
When check stations are not open, hunters can call the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Centralized Dispatch Center at 1-833-PGC-HUNT to make arrangements for their bear to be checked.
As a reminder, regular firearms bear season is extended in selected WMUs across the state. Please review your hunting and trapping digest for WMUs and dates.
Thank you for being a Pennsylvania hunter, conservationist and voice for the future of hunting in PA!
