Every year in Pennsylvania, approximately 40 hunters experience traumatic injuries from falling from a tree stand. Given that most hunters place stands 15-20 feet up a tree, falls from these stands can cause permanent brain damage, paralysis, or even death. Fall arrest systems or full body harnesses can prevent 100% of severe falls to the ground if worn anytime a hunters feet leave the ground. Keeping all of this in mind, it is crucial hunters wear a harness when setting up, hunting out of or taking down a tree stand.

The Game Commission is encouraging hunters to visit these areas on state game lands where habitat projects are creating new forest growth and hunter access has increased.
