Share your feedback on Paid Parental Leave with the Board of Health on June 2
Families across Allegheny County deserve the chance to recover, bond, and build a healthy foundation for their children without having to choose between caring for a newborn and paying the bills.
That’s why the Allegheny County Board of Health has introduced a proposal to require paid parental leave countywide.
We know paid parental leave is not just an economic issue. It is a public health issue. Access to paid leave improves maternal and infant health, supports postpartum recovery and mental health, strengthens family bonding, and helps protect newborns during some of the most vulnerable weeks of life.
Right now, only about 42% of people who give birth in Allegheny County have access to some form of paid leave. Too many families are forced back to work before they are medically ready because they cannot afford not to.
This proposal reflects the goals of our Forward with Families initiative: creating an Allegheny County where families have the support they need to thrive.
The Board of Health is now accepting public comment. Residents can provide feedback in person at the June 2 Board of Health meeting or submit comments online through June 13.
