Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program Vouchers Now Available for Income-Eligible Older Adults in Allegheny Count

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) announced today that the application window is now open for the 2026 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). This program helps income-eligible older adults supplement their diets with locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables by providing $25 in vouchers for use at area farmers markets.   

This year the agency is moving to an online application option and mail distribution process for the 2026 season, with vouchers distributed directly to participants’ homes. This approach, which was first tested during the pandemic, reflects both consumer preference and operational improvements aimed at increasing safety, accessibility, and efficiency. 

Voucher distribution will begin on June 1, 2026. Residents have until September 15 to apply and must utilize the 2026 application in order to be considered for the voucher program. 

“We’re excited to bring the Farmers Market Voucher Program back this season as it not only helps our seniors access fresh, locally grown produce, but also strengthens our commitment to older adults in Allegheny County,” said Dr. Shannah Tharp-Gilliam, Director of the Area Agency on Aging.  “We’ve listened to feedback from seniors and adapted our approach to ensure equitable access to this important program because we know how meaningful it is to this community.” 

Allegheny County distributes these vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis on behalf of the PA Department of Agriculture.  

Eligibility requirements for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program include:  

• Must be a resident of Allegheny County  

• 60 years of age or older (by December 31, 2026) 

• Meet the income guidelines (self-reported): 

• One person household:  At or below $ 29,526 

• Two-person household:  At or below $ 40,034 

• Married couples may receive one set of vouchers for each individual 

Note:  Older adults living in a residential facility that provides meals are not eligible to receive vouchers.   

Once an eligible older adult’s application is received and processed, their set of vouchers will be mailed to them via the U.S. Postal Service. Eligible seniors will receive one set of $25 vouchers, consisting of five vouchers worth $5 each.
