 River Road Tunnel Construction
Beginning August 31, 2026, the River Road Tunnel Replacement Project will get underway near Lake Aspen. This important infrastructure improvement will replace the aging tunnel beneath River Road and is expected to be completed by the end of November.
What to Expect
August 31
- The pathway through the tunnel will close to pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
- A signed detour route will be available for pathway users.
September 8
- River Road traffic will be reduced to a single lane through the project area.
- Temporary traffic signals will direct vehicles through the work zone.
- Motorists should expect delays of up to 10 minutes during peak construction periods.
Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory Access
- Due to pathway closures, access to the Nature Center is limited to vehicular traffic through detours only. All pedestrian access will remain closed during construction.
