SROA facilities closed today
Due to Sunriver's evacuation status (including the Level 1 for all of Sunriver and Levels 2 and 3 for some surrounding areas), most of SROA's facilities will be closed today or have limited services.
The reasons are threefold:
1) We have employees who live in the areas under Level 3 evacuation status and had to leave their homes – others are in Level 1 & 2 designated areas and also need to take care of their homes and family; 2) We have not received an updated status on the fire's activity; and, 3) Based on the previous two factors it is not prudent to bring any employees or attract guests into the community when a fire danger exists.
We are in touch with emergency agencies (police/fire chiefs, Deschutes County). Any evacuation notifications will come from the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office/911. We encourage everyone to sign up for emergency alerts from the county (see info below).
The weather is expected to cool significantly over the next couple of days and will, hopefully, help fire conditions. Even if the Level 1 precaution is still in place tomorrow, there should be a better handle on fire activity and can open SROA's facilities.
 Too close for comfort
The image above shows the closure on the road to Mt. Bachelor due to the Little Lava fire burning west of Sunriver. The fire's rapid growth on Monday resulted in a Level 1 evacuation notification at approximately 7:30pm for Sunriver and the surrounding areas. The fire is currently at 5700+ acres.
Sunriver remains at a Level 1 "Be Ready" evacuation at this time. We are optimistic fire crews will get this lightning-caused fire under control. Those in a Level 1 evacuation don't have to wait for things to escalate to leave. You can decide what's best for your family until the threat has passed.
This is a good time to visit www.sunriveremergencyinfo.com to learn more about what you can do should Sunriver be moved to a higher level evacuation status.
We are including links below on receiving emergency notifications, how to be prepared and stay informed on what's going on.
