It’s a big week, Oregon! Let’s get right into it.
Ballots are in the mail, and now every voter in Oregon can sign up to receive updates about the status of their ballot. Just go to oregonvotes.gov/track.
You can get updates by email, text message, or phone call. You will be updated:
-
When your ballot is sent to you.
-
When your ballot is received by your county elections office.
-
When your ballot is accepted for counting
-
If your ballot was not accepted because of an issue with the signature on your ballot envelope that can be fixed.
With ballots on the way, it’s time to make a plan to vote. I recommend using a secure, convenient drop box. You can find one near you using oregonvotes.gov/dropbox.
It is still safe to return your ballot by mail, just plan to do it no later than 7 days before election day. If you need to mail your ballot less than a week before election day, take it into the Post Office and ask for a hand postmark.
And before I sign off, I am calling on all Oregonians to remain vigilant in the face of any attempts to intimidate voters we may see over the next few weeks.
The federal administration has refused to rule out sending troops to polling locations, and there are reports of armed troops stationed in front of ballot boxes in Washington, D.C. This is completely unacceptable and illegal, but, unfortunately, not surprising.
Here in Oregon, our communities and immigrant families are dealing with a surge in violent and disruptive ICE activity, and I refuse to believe the timing is a coincidence.
Know your rights and be prepared to vote this November.
Sincerely,
Tobias Read Oregon Secretary of State

On Tuesday, October 13, Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read held a press conference with APWU Oregon President Daniel Cortez to get Oregonians ready to vote. They provided updates on how voters can track their ballot and the best ways for voters to ensure that they get their ballot in on time.
