We are constantly working to improve our trainings and strengthen our resources for practicing notaries. We have some important announcements!
New Training Resources for Practicing Notaries
If you are interested in offering remote online notarization (RON), we have just revised and updated the RON training, and are offering it a new and more accessible format! You still need to register and take the course through Workday--just log in and search for SOS - CORP - Notary - RON.
Have you just received your commission and you're feeling anxious about your first notarization? Or have you had your commission for a while and found that you do not do a lot of notary work, and just need some extra practice? We will be offering a new, in person, monthly training called "Practice Makes Perfect." This interactive training will allow you to practice with a range of sample journal entries and certificates. You can see upcoming offerings and sign up through Workday--just search by the name. The first one is August 29, so there is still time to register!
We hope that these new offerings will be useful to you whether you want to brush up on something basic or explore an unfamiliar situation or process.
As always, if you have ideas about resources you'd like to see, please contact us--we'd love to hear from you!
Upcoming Notary Conference!
SAVE THE DATE: AUGUST 13-14, 2026. We will be holding the first ever West Coast Notary Conference!
The conference will be held at the Convention Center in Salem. Sessions under discussion include topics like support resources for notaries, cross-border issues in notarizing documents, fraud and fraud prevention strategies, artificial intelligence, elder abuse, and the value of errors and omissions insurance/bonds.
There will be representatives of national organizations, notary supply vendors, RON vendors, and notaries from all over Oregon and beyond. Come to learn and network!
The website is live, and will be updated with new information as we get it: State of Oregon: Business - 2026 West Coast Notary Conference

Reminder about trainings on Workday: For all notary trainings offered by the State of Oregon, you will access registration and training materials by setting up an account in Workday. Information about the self-paced online training, the RON online training, the refresher training, the schedule for upcoming instructor-led webinars (both basic and advanced), in-person trainings, and the instructions for setting up an account in Workday, can all be found on the notary training page on the Secretary of State’s website.
Getting stuck in (or outside) Workday? Having login difficulties? We feel you. Contact the notary team for help at NotarySeminar.SOS@sos.oregon.gov. DO NOT contact the help folks at Workday or DAS, they will not be able to help you.
Reminder: Education letters
In case you missed our earlier announcement, education letters will now be sent to notaries who have not properly completed notarization of oaths for notary commission applicants. Please be advised that unless you have indicated whether the commission applicant has chosen to swear or affirm, and formally administered the verbal oath, the notarization has not been properly completed. For now, these will be letters intended to advise you of the error and will not be part of the formal discipline process, but in future these mistakes may result in advice letters, so be sure to complete all parts of these certificates just as you do when performing other notarizations.
