Dear Oregon Voter,
Happy Memorial Day!
All across the state this week, 36 independent county elections officials were counting ballots and reporting results.
In many contests, those margins of victory are narrow, which is why some of the candidates and ballot measures you’re following may be “too close to call.” Always use official sources of trusted information to verify official results, which will be posted at OregonVotes.gov.
Oregon’s vote-by-mail system has been the gold standard since 1981. Republicans and Democrats have worked together to build the country’s most accessible voting system, one we can all be proud of.
We go to great lengths to ensure elections are accurate and secure. Signature verification, post-election audits, and rigorous machine testing are just some of the many ways we work to verify results.
It’s also why voter fraud isn’t a problem in Oregon. Our elections are secure and protected against fraud in all but exceedingly rare instances where it’s caught and prosecuted.
It starts with accurate voter registration records. Oregon works with federal, state, and county elections officials to keep the list up to date and accurate. Every ballot envelope gets a unique barcode matched to a voter, and every signature on every returned ballot is verified. Finally, we conduct post-election audits to verify the accuracy of the results.

Sincerely,
LaVonne Griffin-Valade Oregon Secretary of State
