Todd Albert is confirmed as Oregon’s next Public Records Advocate

Salem, OR (March 8, 2021) – Todd Albert has been confirmed by the Oregon State Senate as the next Public Records Advocate. Mr. Albert succeeds Ginger McCall, Oregon’s first advocate, who resigned from the position in October of 2019. “It has taken more time than expected to confirm a new advocate, and I want to thank the members of the Public Records Advisory Council – most especially it’s chair, Stephanie Clark – for their steadfast determination in seeing this process through to the end,” said Albert. “I would also like to thank all those who have supported my selection as the next Public Records Advocate, including the council members, bipartisan members of the legislature and the Governor.“

A graduate of Brooklyn Law School in 2002 and Boston University in 1999, Mr. Albert’s entire career has been devoted to serving in the public interest, including as a public defender in his hometown of New York City, as in-house counsel to the Oregon Judicial Department, and as a trial lawyer at the Oregon Department of Justice. “What I am most looking forward to in my role as Public Records Advocate is continuing to improve the conversation around access to records in Oregon for both requesters and public employees, while providing practical and thoughtful suggestions on updates to the law,” Albert stated. “At the same time, I will continue to champion the creation and growth of an independent office free of undue political interference.”
