SALEM, OR - Taneesh Garg, a fifth grader at Springville K-8 school in Beaverton, will be sworn in as Oregon’s 4th Kid Governor on February 8, 2021 at 1:30 p.m.

Taneesh was elected by fifth graders from across the state and will focus on his platform of ending racism. His three point plan includes:

Awareness: Creating Awareness about racism by encouraging kids to participate in a club.

Communicate: Creating a safe medium to share personal experiences and thoughts about racism.

Take Action: Fundraising by organizing food sales with different culture foods and also write and talk to legislatures to bring about meaningful change.

The other six finalists will also be recognized at the ceremony. Their names, schools and platforms are:

Brennah, Deep Creek-Damascus K-8 School – Air Pollution
Evie, Adams Elementary – Shelter Animals
Lohith, Oak Creek Elementary – Global Warming and Climate Change
Phia, Hawks View Elementary – Littering: Helping to Keep Oregon Green and Clean
Ruthie, McCornack Elementary – Helping Kids Dream Big About Their Future
