(Oct. 29, 2026) The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) advises the traveling public that installation of stormwater improvements for newly installed ADA corner ramps will require a full closure of two blocks on N Peninsular Avenue in the Kenton Neighborhood during daytime hours for six weekdays, Friday Oct. 30 through Nov. 6.
N Peninsular Avenue will be closed to all vehicle traffic for only two blocks, between Hunt Street and Willis Boulevard. But it will require a detour for vehicle traffic including TriMet buses between Columbia Boulevard and Lombard Street.
Regional travelers passing through the area should consider using N Chautauqua Boulevard as an alternate north-south route.
The road will be closed to travelers only during work hours, expected to be from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays. Before and after work hours, the road will be open to all travelers as the as crews will cover the surface of the utility cut with steel plates to make it safe. During work hours, at least one east-west pedestrian crossing will be available at the two intersections of Peninsular Avenue and Willis Boulevard. Access to homes in the area will be provided.
Regional travelers who are not heading to destinations in the immediate vicinity of the closure will be directed to use the following detour routes:
Southbound travelers will be directed to go west on Columbia Boulevard, south on Chautauqua Boulevard and east on Lombard Street to reach Peninsular Avenue.
Northbound travelers will be directed to go east on Lombard Street to Brandon Avenue to go northwest on Argyle Way and west on Columbia Boulevard to reach Peninsular Avenue.
Detours on bus routes are expected, so people using public transit should check TriMet.org for updates.
Sidewalks will be available during work hours.
The traveling public is advised to expect delays, travel cautiously, observe all closures and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible.
This work is weather-dependent, and the schedule may change.
This work was initiated by a request from a Portlander in the Ramps by Request program. PBOT has recently rebuilt nine ramps on Peninsular Avenue, with three more to be updated soon. Ramps in this area make it more accessible for people who depend on mobility devices to reach homes, public transit stops and other nearby destinations.
Community members with disabilities may submit requests for curb ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Learn more at the program website.
