 Important Reminder
This is a reminder message that beginning on Friday, Sept. 11 and for an estimated five weeks, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will close all southbound lanes of Interstate 5—all hours, all days. The closure is for extensive repairs to the elevated structure just south of the Moda Center. It means significant disruptions for people driving through downtown Portland.
Prepare for significant changes to daily commutes until crews complete the work. For updates and alerts, sign up for the I-5 Rose Quarter mailing list.
Shift Your Trip
Start planning now before construction starts. Getting around the Portland metro area for work, school, or fun could require extra time. Shift your trip. Explore alternate modes of transportation like transit, carpooling, or biking.

Try these options instead of being stuck in traffic:
-
Transit. Don’t live close to a bus, C-Tran, MAX, or Streetcar line? Find a Park and Ride or bike to a transit line. For transit updates and service alerts, or to plan your trip, visit TriMet or C-Tran.
-
Carpool. ODOT matches carpools through the Get There platform. Find coworkers to ride with or set up your own!
-
Timing. Shift your trip so you're not on the road during peak morning or evening rush, typically 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. But according to ODOT’s estimates, with construction congestion, commute times will be 6:30-9 a.m. and 4-8:30 p.m.
-
Telework. Work from home if that’s an option through your employer.

Fewer vehicles on the road means less traffic and makes it easier for emergency vehicles to get through. If you're able to shift your trip and drive less, it also means less traffic for those who don’t have that flexibility.
We’re in this together! Spread the word. Tell five friends.
