City Council is back from recess, and it was wonderful spending the past week connecting with so many of you at community events, neighborhood gatherings, and around District 1. Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas, concerns, and priorities with me.
As we return to Council, I'm excited to continue advancing public safety, supporting our local businesses, and working alongside our community to keep building a stronger District 1.

June Coffee with a Cop
It is always a pleasure to welcome you, east precinct officers, and public safety leaders for my monthly Coffee with a cop. In June we discussed the findings of the City's Police Staffing and Recruitment Report. Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation, asked thoughtful questions, and shared your perspectives on the future of public safety in Portland.

Lents 2026 Pride Market & Show
My team and I were proud to join neighbors, local organizations, and community partners at the Lents Pride Market & Show, celebrating inclusion, creativity, and community in East Portland.
Creating spaces where everyone feels seen, welcomed, and valued is deeply important to Councilor Smith. Events like Lents Pride strengthen community, celebrate diversity, and remind us that Portland is strongest when every resident has a place to belong.

Sunday Parkways ‘East Portland'
Joining neighbors and community partners for East Portland Sunday Parkways, a celebration of active transportation, neighborhood connection, and safer streets.
Events like Sunday Parkways are important because they provide hands-on opportunities to learn safe biking and walking practices while encouraging families to experience our streets in a fun, welcoming environment. By promoting bicycle safety, pedestrian awareness, and healthy transportation, we help build a stronger, safer community for everyone
Good in the Hood Multicultural Festival & Parade
I was proud to join thousands of community members at the 33rd Annual Good in the Hood Multicultural Festival.
For more than three decades, Good in the Hood has brought Portland together to celebrate culture, uplift local entrepreneurs, invest in youth, and strengthen community connections. Events like this are important because they create spaces where people feel seen, cultures are celebrated, and neighborhoods come together to build a stronger, more connected Portland.

Celebrate summer with two evenings of free live music, local arts, and family-friendly fun at Ventura Park. This year's festival features performances by LaRhonda Steele and Conjunto Alegre, followed by the Portland Cello Project's tribute to Stevie Wonder.
