Dear Neighbor, 

Yesterday, the City Council handed Portland both a hard-earned victory and a sobering wake-up call. 

A major win for our communities: 

Because you raised your voices, we secured $3.3 million to safeguard the programs Portlanders count on every day: 

$2.5 million restored to community safety and youth programs: 

• Project Ceasefire & Office of Violence Prevention 

• Portland Street Response (behavioral health crisis response) 

• CHAT teams (connecting vulnerable residents with care) 

• Summer Free for All (youth programming) 

$800,000 to create Portland’s City Data & Privacy Office – passed unanimously – strengthening citywide data governance and privacy protections. 

This funding is a promise to invest in people, safety, and accountability, not just political maneuvering. 

Setback for Frontline Workers:

By refusing to pause the Core Services Realignment, the Council is putting 46 vital city jobs at risk. These are the frontline workers who keep Portland running every day, yet now they face losing their livelihoods without having a real say in what happens next. 

The Morillo-Green-Novick 1: Core services Realignment Pause amendment would have: 

• Paused the proposed layoff for one year and protected jobs. 

• Required transparent communication with workers and ensured oversight and labor consultation. 

• Assess service impacts before any future workforce reductions. 

When changes are rushed, both vital services and the people behind them are put in jeopardy. City government should stand up for jobs and invite workers to the table, not cut them out for convenience.

I will keep fighting for workers, public services, and real accountability. Portland’s city employees deserve respect, job security, and a seat at the table when decisions shape their work and our neighborhoods.
