Hi Friends,

Thank you SO much to all of you who submitted written testimony, signed up to speak online or in-person, wrote emails to my office and to other City Councilors, and otherwise engaged in advocating for a Portland that works better for everyone! It’s been a quick turn-around, and I’m so amazed by all the voices and perspectives we heard today. I am excited about the process of working with my fellow Councilors in the days ahead to make this budget better serve our city.

I am working on a recommendation (aka budget note) to outline some changes that I would like to see for future budgets. The first one is making sure that there is WAY more time in between when Councilor amendments drop and when community members come testify to Council!

In Friday’s newsletter I talked about the amendments I was bringing to this year’s budget. We now have a list of all of the amendments proposed by all of the Councilors, if you want to do a deep dive (this outlines where funds move to and what the funding source is). Today was the only day for public testimony, but you are still very much invited to submit written testimony and write to Councilors. Our office reads every email, and I deeply appreciate hearing from you. Democracy works best when we all participate as we’re able!
