I’m taking a quick break from the budget to let you know about some upcoming District 3 events that you don’t want to miss. I hope to see you at some of these!

Team Morillo events 🏙️

Constituent Coffee: May 27th 

This month’s constituent coffee is happening next week on Wednesday, May 27^th.

In celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Month, we are are hosting our May coffee at a beloved District 3 community hub: The Filipino Bayanihan Center (1537 SE Moriison St). Join us from 6:00-7:30 for local Filipino food, music, and a Q&A with Councilor Morillo.

Brooklyn Bridge Naming Celebration: Sunday, May 31st 

I have been proud to work with the Brooklyn Neighborhood Association to get the railroad overpass on SE Holgate officially recognized as the Brooklyn Bridge. I’m excited to have a little part of our District officially recognized and commemorated!

Join us Sunday, May 31^st  from 3:00-5:00 pm for a naming celebration that will include music, food, a ribbon cutting, and a group walk to the other side of the bridge for an afterparty at the Brooklyn Carreta food carts and bar.

June Constituent Coffee: June 24th

I’m so excited to share with you that our June Constituent Coffee will be held at the beloved ASL coffee shop, The Woodstock Café on Wednesday, June 24th from 6:00-7:30.

The Woodstock Café is so special, and I am thankful that we have such a critical resource for the Deaf community in our district. Owned and operated by Deaf Portlanders, Woodstock Café has become a hub for the Deaf community in Portland, a space for ASL learners to practice in immersion, and a neighborhood coffee shop that serves great bevvies and tasty bites

I’m proud to host our June event at The Woodstock Café because for too long, Deaf Portlanders haven’t had the access to City Hall that they deserve. So I’m bringing City Hall to the Deaf community. Because space is limited, we will prioritize seating for those who are Deaf, hard of hearing, an ally in the Deaf community, or ASL learners.

Please feel free to share this event with Deaf Portlanders in your life! I’m hoping for a great turnout and can’t wait to hear from the community.

Community Bulletin Board 📌

Here are some of my favorite upcoming community events I want to share with you. It’s a great time of year to get out of the house and into District 3!

• Friday, May 22^nd through May 24^th: Join tattoo fans and professionals from all over the country at the artist-run Void Tattoo Fest, happening Memorial Day weekend at the Jupiter Hotel on Burnside. Featuring live tattooing, music and afterparties, seminars, art shows, flash sales, and other ways to support our thriving tattoo scene here in District 3. Get your tickets here. 
• Saturday, May 23^rd: Youth skateboarding collective Push Movement is hosting a block party to bring together community members, local artists, and skateboarders See you there from noon to 6:00to celebrate healing and recovery through movement. See you there from noon to 6:00 on the 23rd at 831 SE MLK (underneath the Morrison Bridge). 
• The Burnside Bridge is turning 100 and here are a few ways to celebrate: Thursday, May 28^th at 7:00 am, Breakfast on the Bridges is hosting a pop-up breakfast on the Burnside Bridge to share donuts and coffee in honor of the bridge’s 100^th birthday. Then on Saturday, May 30^th, Multnomah County is hosting a centennial birthday party from noon to 5:00 pm. The family-friendly event will feature kid-focused activities, interactive exhibits and storytelling that highlights key moments in the bridge’s history.
  • Burnside 100 Bday Breakfast on the Bridges - Calendar - Shift
  • Come celebrate with us as the Burnside Bridge turns 100!
• Saturday, May 30^th,1:00-3:00 pm: Join me and my team at one of my favorite annual Portland traditions: The Rose Festival Junior Parade! We will dress in costumes, transform wagons into floats, decorate bikes with colorful flowers, and enjoy the parade with friends and family. We are proud to host this year’s kickoff spot right here in beautiful District 3!
• Spring has sprung and that means it's time to get out parks in tip top shape for the summer. Join Portland Parks and Rec for community clean-up and park tending at any of these upcoming volunteer days:
  
  • Wednesday, May 27^th: Hazeltine Park, 9:00 am till noon
  • Saturday, May 30^th: Mt. Tabor, 9:00 am till noon 
  • Wednesday, June 3^rd: Errol Heights Park, 9:00 am till noon 
  • Wednesday, June 10^th: Laurelhurst Park, 9:00 am till noon
• June 1^st marks the official beginning of BIKE SUMMER: my favorite part of the year! Portlanders gather together to roll around our city – sometimes in fun outfits, most of the time with excellent tunes, and always in a spirit of celebrating all things Portland. You can check out the full calendar of group rides at Shift2Bikes, but here are some of my favorite rides coming up in District 3:
  • Mellow Mondays: weekly themed rides, no drop, beginning friendly, slow paced and hosted by Naked Hearts PDX. Mondays at 7:00, meet up at Abernathy Elementary School.
  • Fair Weather Ride: only for nice days! Tuesday, May 26^th at 6:30 pm, meet at Ankeny Rainbow Plaza. A chill ride for fair weather folks.
  • Ice Cream Bike Bus: join this after-school ride through District 3 neighborhoods that ends at 50 Licks on Clinton! Wednesday, June 3^rd at 2:30 pm.
• Saturday, June 20^th: Congratulations to the Kernside Business Association for putting together the first ever Kernside Street Fair! This event promises to be one for the books with live music, great food, a bouncy castle for the kids, art installations, and over 100+ vendors. See you there from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm!
