This week, we’re celebrating National Volunteer Week with Portland Parks & Recreation volunteers—the people who show up, care deeply, and help make Portland's parks and neighborhoods stronger every day. A dedicated team help make Rose City Bluff (pictured above) a more welcoming place for walking, running, hiking, and biking. In volunteering together, they've built a connected community driven by care for the land, wildlife, and each other. This is Portland in action. The Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood now has more affordable housing, including 25 units of Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) for those exiting homelessness. Innovative Housing, Inc., has completed Garden Park Estates, a redevelopment project that expanded the existing 63-unit complex into 117 energy-efficient affordable homes, from studios to 3-bedrooms. Construction was completed in three phases - all units are now open to low-income households.
Mayor Keith Wilson outlines ‘significant and painful cuts’ to close historic budget gap of over $160 million as revenues for fiscal year 2026-27 lag behind costs. His proposal maintains critical resources like police officers, fire stations, parks, community centers, and affordable housing.
The resolution supports expedited planning and policy work across City bureaus to enable housing development in Portland's Inner Eastside for people in all ages, wages, and stages of life.
BIKETOWN was launched on July 19, 2016. To commemorate 10 years of bike-share service, PBOT will host a massive group ride on Sunday, July 19, where all Portlanders are welcome to ride downtown in the morning and celebrate at the Portland Pride Parade. To mark this milestone and make bike-sharing even more convenient, BIKETOWN will replace all first-generation e-bikes with new e-bikes this year.
National Youth Violence Prevention Week (April 27-May 2, 2026) is a national observance that emphasizes the importance of early intervention, cross-sector collaboration, and youth-centered approaches to fostering safety and well-being. In Portland, the Office of Violence Prevention convenes youth, schools, community-based organizations, and public partners to participate in skill-building opportunities that provide tools to support conflict resolution, personal safety, and positive decision-making.

Serve on a board or committee

The Portland Bureau of Emergency Communications (BOEC) is recruiting three community members to serve as volunteers on the User Board from West Portland, East Portland, and East Multnomah County. The User Board brings together partners and community voices to advise on 9-1-1 operations, policy, and improvements. This is a great opportunity for community members to help shape public safety and emergency communications. We’re especially interested in hearing from people with lived experience or interest in the areas of mental health, social services, equity, and community advocacy. Deadline extended. Closing date is May 3.
Procurement Services is establishing a highly collaborative, and effective advisory body that will be integrated into Procurement Services strategic planning and equity work. The member body will serve to advise on procurement equity strategy, policy development, and emergent initiatives and serve as a trusted partner to instill confidence that voices of the local contracting community are represented in City decisions involving public contracting and workforce development. Closing date April 26

Your Portland moment
On Saturday, April 4, over 60 community members gathered at Harrison Park to celebrate the arrival of spring. The planting took place in the Montavilla neighborhood, which has a tree canopy coverage average of 19%. In addition to low canopy coverage, Harrison Park has lost several large, mature trees in recent years. In response, APANO and Friends of Harrison Park led the charge to host an event to regreen the park through tree planting and nature patch stewardship.
