The City of Portland has won a national award to expand GLITTER -- an innovative workforce partnership that helps formerly unhoused neighbors get back on their feet.
The $275,000 award will help the City and its nonprofit partner, Ground Score Association, pay 20 workers with lived experience of homelessness or poverty to pick up trash and debris, recover hard‑to‑recycle materials, and protect stormwater and green infrastructure systems.
"This initiative is about caring for our city and caring for each other," Mayor Wilson said. "By empowering Portlanders who are transitioning from our streets to lead this work, we're creating cleaner neighborhoods, stronger connections, and real opportunities for people to move forward."
Portland won the award from the Healthy & Sustainable Communities Grant Program, a joint project of the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Calling for a full-scale renovation of the Moda Center, local leaders are urging Oregon legislators to pass Senate Bill 1501, which would support the upgrade. “This is so much bigger than basketball,” they write. “In good times and bad, win or lose, Oregonians stick together. We are defined by work ethic and grit, substance over flash, determination in the face of adversity. After more than 50 years, the Blazers are at the center of our state's identity. Let's cement their future in Portland and invest in an economic asset that benefits Oregonians statewide. Game on.”

Today, Portland Permitting & Development upheld a land-use violation at the ICE facility in South Portland, according to an administrative review decision. The property owner has until March 16 to correct the violations – or face a monthly fee of $934. Violations primarily concerned keeping detainees at the facility for more than 12 hours, which violates the security plan approved as part of a 2011 land use review decision. The decision could be appealed to the City Hearings Office.

Your Portland moment
Portland just got a whole lot greener — thanks to 11,000+ new trees planted in schools, parks, and along our streets.
Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) Urban Forestry cares for the city's trees, working to protect, preserve, and expand the urban forest for every Portlander. Together, PP&R, community partners, residents, and other City bureaus plant thousands of trees each year.
During the 2025 tree planting season (Fall 2024 – Spring 2025), the City and its partners planted or gave away over 11,000 trees. Some were small saplings planted in natural areas. Others were larger trees planted along neighborhood streets, in yards, at schools, and in our parks.
