Fall 2025 Update

What did we hear from the community?
Thank you to everyone who participated in our last engagement phase in August and September through advisory committee meetings, focus groups, community gatherings, the Kidz Outside Festival, and the online survey. We engaged with over 600 Portlanders and heard your preferences about the three design options we shared.
Overall, we heard most preferred Heart of the Park and Beacon in the Park for the following reasons:
-
Heart of the Park - overall site layout, location of splash pad and pavilion, second floor for spectator viewing, preservation of trees, and the organic shape of the plaza.
-
Beacon in the Park - distinctive exterior design, preserves the largest field area, replaces nuisance trees, and keeps the tennis courts.
- Both feature parking lot entrances on Fessenden Street, rather than Geneva Street.
Now, the design team is using community input and feedback from PP&R staff who program and maintain our pools to create a final preferred design. You can read more detailed summaries about everything we heard at the links below.

Next Engagement Phase - Early 2026
As mentioned above, our design team is hard at work creating a final preferred design that incorporates all of the input we heard in August and September.
We are planning for a third engagement phase in early 2026 to share the preferred design and make sure we got it right. Look out for an invitation to engage through a Community Gathering event and online survey in the New Year.
Thank to you to the North Portland community for your ongoing participation in shaping the future of swimming in North Portland!
