Join Us for a Free Celebration!
Friday, October 24 | 5 to 7:30pm Mt. Scott Community Center | 5530 SE 72nd Avenue, Portland
Celebrate the grand reopening of the newly renovated Mt. Scott Community Center!
All are welcome to this fun, free community event that will include music, building tours, fitness classes, open swim time, craft stations, and more!
The renovated Mt. Scott Community Center now boasts more light in its interior spaces, improved ADA accessibility, the addition of new classrooms, meeting spaces, an event hall, and more.
The center also features 22 new public artworks, including a large mixed-media textile piece titled "Understory" in the lobby's main stairwell by Portland-based artist Isabella Saavedra, the reinstallation of the beloved 25-year-old sculptural relief artwork by Gail Simpson and Aristotle Georgiades, and 2D works on the 1st and 2nd floor corridors by 16 local artists.
The addition of these artworks was made possible by the City's Percent for Art Program, which specifies that up to 2% of qualifying infrastructure project budgets be dedicated to public art, all done in partnership between Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC), Portland Parks & Recreation, and the Office of Arts & Culture.
The center closed to the public in 2023 for construction, opened for drop-in activities on September 2, 2025, and will be fully operational in January 2026.
The updated and remodeled Mt. Scott Community Center expands the original 31,000-square-foot building into a two-story, 70,000-square-foot modern recreation facility.
Improvements include:
- new fitness rooms
- rental and event spaces
- classrooms
- upgrades to the existing building's roof, HVAC, and fire-sprinkler systems, seismic stability, and windows.
Come see the transformation and join your community in celebrating this milestone moment!
