Arts & Culture is excited to announce a new slate of eventsācommunity conversations and public engagement opportunitiesādeveloped by and with Portland Monuments Project partners, including the Portland Parks Foundation, Oregon Black Pioneers, Literary Arts, and the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. This fall series of events invites Portlanders to reflect on how we remember, what we honor, and how public art can serve as a gathering place for civic life.
āSince 2020, Portlanders have been asking thoughtful questions about the stories we elevate,ā said Darion Jones, Arts & Culture's Assistant Director. āThis fallās programs bring people together activating communitiesāon the waterfront, in our parks, and in conversationāto listen, learn, and help shape the future of monuments and public art."Ā

To create partnership pathways between community arts organizations, teaching artists, and schools in Portland, the City of Portland is creating a teaching artists directory. The directory will be published on the Arts Access Fund's Creating Together webpage, as well as shared with educators across Portland's six school districts and charter schools.Ā
Through October 15, we're inviting teaching artists to apply to be included in the directory. An open application period will happen twice a year moving forward, in the fall and the winter. Once listed in the directory, teaching artists will remain for future schools years and will not need to reapply.Ā

In its annual examination of arts and cultural organizations across the country, SMU DataArts uncovers key trends shaping the arts from 2019-2024. This analysis of financial data draws on more than 6,500 arts and cultural organizations nationwide, offering insights into the current realities organizations of all sizes, disciplines, and locations are facing.
This yearās findings reveal sobering news: while the composition of earned and contributed revenue is returning to pre-pandemic patterns, overall revenue has fallen significantly. Organizations have responded by cutting expenses, and the working capital that many built up during the pandemic continues to erode.
