Portland Metro Area Educators
It was such a joy to spend time with the Portland Metro Area Educators (PMAE-Retired) last week at my very own union hall with the Portland Association of Teachers. This group is made up of retired educators who are still organizing, advocating, and uplifting our schools and communities with heart and wisdom.
They were lovely, inspiring, and powerful — a true reminder that the fight for public education doesn’t stop at retirement. Deep gratitude for their work and their welcome. Learn more about them here: PMAE-Retired - Join Us
International School of Beaverton
This week, two different groups of students from the International School of Beaverton visited City Hall as part of their Civics Week. I absolutely love whenever students visit City Hall. What an absolute delight to talk about ways to be engaged with local government.
Are you a teacher? Are you interested in bringing your class on a field trip to City Hall? Feel free to reach out if you’d like help planning one!
Engagement with Council
This week we heard a lot of important issues come before the City Council. I want to take a moment to thank everyone who showed up and took time out of their day (and/or night) to engage by testifying, submitting written testimony, contacting our staff, calling our office, or participating in some other way. Your voices are being heard on these very important issues. Your passion and advocacy is admirable and appreciated. Thank you for showing up for our community and helping to make this new form of government for and by the people!
Canvassing
Our team was out and about in District 3 today because we went door knocking! In addition to the info gathered from surveys and budget listening sessions, we want to get some extra data through door to door canvassing! We will be going out to different neighborhoods each week to ask constituents about their thoughts and priorities for the city’s budget. It was great to have conversations this afternoon on doorsteps where community members openly shared what they want to see prioritized in terms of the general fund. I took lots of notes and will be sharing them with the Mayor!
Ankeny Rainbow Road
I ended my day today by helping with the repainting of Ankeny Rainbow Road! Thank you to the Kernside Business Association for the walk around the area and for including me in the ribbon cutting to inaugurate this summer's activities on the plaza! 🌈
