Leadership and Citywide Updates
Portlanders highlight community priorities and challenges, giving high marks to the city’s parks, natural spaces and arts scene but remain concerned about homelessness, the cost of living and community safety, according to findings from the most recent Portland Insights Survey.
The 2024 Ombudsman Annual Report is out! Read about how we helped Portlanders achieve fair and equitable outcomes. The 2024 Annual Report highlights increased complaint numbers and financial savings for community members. The Ombudsman also announced the launch of a new public dashboard with complaint data.
City of Portland Veterans Empowerment Team, an employee resource group for veterans, service members and their family members, invites you to participate or donate to the Do Good Multnomah annual fundraising Ruck March. Do Good Multnomah is an organization dedicated to assisting houseless veterans and other vulnerable groups. We are requesting any donations you may wish to contribute. You can donate funds directly or provide travel-size hygiene products directly to our team members who will be participating in the ruck march.
Around the City: Service Area and Program Updates
Last Thursday the city's Printing & Distribution shop (P&D) held its first open house in over a decade, attracting nearly 80 visitors from across the city's many offices and divisions. In addition to copious amounts of swag, visitors—mostly City employees—took home a general sense of amazement at how much this small, unassuming shop offers.
Urban Forestry’s Mari Aviles received a statewide Individual Award from Oregon Community Trees and the Oregon Department of Forestry for her leadership in urban forestry. Mari has expanded inclusive contracting, provided bilingual field training and grown the Free Street Tree program from a one-person project to a nine-person team. Her work supports Portland’s goal of planting 10,000 trees annually and reflects Portland Parks & Recreation’s commitment to equity, workforce development and sustainable urban tree care.
April 26 and 27, in celebration of Earth Day, Portlanders can pick up FREE compost at our Sunderland Maintenance Yard, 9325 NE Sunderland Road, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. This offer ends on April 27 or when we run out of compost. This year's event is only two days long, so we don't anticipate running out - be sure to get yours!

Community Volunteer Opportunities
Safe Blocks and our community partners in the Jade District invite you to come help clean up our streets just in time for Earth Day and the 82nd Avenue Parade of Roses - we just need your support! Registered participants will receive a free lunch. Please join us on Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to Noon.
Are you interested in volunteering in your community to help more people walk, roll, bike and take public transit? The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) invites you to join our Transportation Ambassadors team, a group of volunteers who support transportation fairs, bike rides, community outreach and more.
The Portland Bureau of Transportation is recruiting applications for up to 30 new Transportation System Plan Community Advisory Committee members. The Community Advisory Committee will advise the transportation director, support project team staff by advising on key tasks throughout each phase of the 2045 workplan and will focus on policies and outcomes of technical analyses while providing valuable insights into community values and investment priorities.
