Housing and Aging
On Wednesday afternoon I testified in support of House Bill 3589. If passed, this bill would focus money on affordable and accessible housing for older adults in Oregon and those living with disabilities. Dr. Alan DeLaTorre presented some fantastic information in support of the bill that I will link below. Creating age-friendly cities and states is deeply important to my platform.

Woodstock Walk
On Wednesday morning, I joined Catie and her family to walk to Woodstock Elementary School. We talked about Portland’s Safe Routes to Schools program and the challenges and the challenges and opportunities young learners experience on their way to school every day. Our conversation was a reminder of how rich our city is in willing and enthusiastic community leaders, who see an issue and are committed to being a part of the solution. This is a commitment I share.

Breaking Ground for Recovery
On Tuesday, one of my staffers went to Central City Concern’s (CCC) construction site for their new rehabilitation facility that is opening in May. The 16 x Burnside recovery center is going to fill the gap for increased residential treatment capacity to support people transitioning out of detox centers but aren’t yet ready for outpatient treatment. The facility will have 74 beds, allowing CCC to serve up to 250 patients every year. CCC has been working closely with the Buckman and Kerns neighborhoods. This center will save countless lives, and I am incredibly excited for its opening.
"Our Care Belongs to Each Other'
Last night, I attended the PDX Saints Love Restoration of Love event, which brought together a room full of people who have been touched by the organization’s efforts to build community connections with their recently-opened day shelter and their ongoing community wellness fairs, housing connections, and support. It was incredibly inspiring to hear the stories of individuals who have had their lives changed by PDX Saint’s Love.
Thank you for reading! Until next time,
Teacher Tiffany
