 The Office of Arts & Culture officially launched on July 1, 2024, and we exist to support, celebrate, and amplify the incredible work of Portlandās artists and creatives. Our team puts arts at the center of public life for all Portlanders through our commitment to arts education, grantmaking, public art, and performance spaces.

MusicOregon announces 2024-2025 Echo Fund recipients š
MusicOregon is the first statewide organization to create grant programs for the sole purpose of supporting the unique needs of musicians, and their Echo Fund empowers local music-makers to undertake creative, non-performance projects that support new growth and spur creative and career development.
One of three Arts & Culture grantmaking partners, MusicOregon distributes small grants to individual artists and arts organizations on behalf of the City of Portland. We're excited to share that they've announced their newest group of Echo Fund recipients for 2024-2025.

Apply for the IFCC Artist Grant & Residency Program through January 8
Friends of IFCC, an Arts & Culture grantmaking partner, is accepting submissions for the IFCC Artist Grant & Residency Program through January 8. The program provides artists with funding, studio space, and opportunities for collaboration and professional development.
Portland-based artists working at any level, across wide-ranging disciplinesāincluding but not limited to visual arts, writing, multimedia, music, dance, theater, spoken word, and multidisciplinary performanceāare encouraged to apply. This program provides artists with nine-week residencies at IFCC and grant awards ranging from $1,000 to $12,000 per grant.

Arts & Culture partners with The Kennedy Center's Any Given Child program
The Office of Arts & Culture is pleased to announce a new partnership with The Kennedy Centerās Any Given Child program. As of fall 2024, the office is acting as the backbone organization for Portlandās Any Given Child initiative. The goal of the Any Given Child program is to partner with communities to ensure an equitable access to an arts education for K-8 students. Watch this newsletter for more updates as the work of guaranteeing a full arts education for every child continues.

ICYMI: The Portland Monuments Symposium
On October 11-12, Arts & Culture, Converge 45, and other partners hosted the Portland Monuments Symposium at Portland Community College's Cascade Campus. The two-day event served as an important opportunity for community voices, artists, regional arts administrators, and national arts leaders to convene to explore art, history, storytelling, and the role of monuments in public space.

Portland Events & Film Office announces new grantees
In partnership with Travel Portland, the Portland Events & Film Office recently announced three recipients of its Amplify Portland: Local Filmmakers Production Grant. Intended to create opportunity for filmmakers utilizing local talent, crew, and vendors, the 2024 grantees are Something About the Tide, Dragathon: Meeting Hate with Joy, and Leaders of Men.Ā
Earlier in November, the office announced awardees for its Scale Up Event Grant, including Portland Track Festival and HOLI - Portland Color Festival. The Scale Up Event Grant provides funding and technical assistance for local Portland events that are primed to grow and attract attendance beyond the Portland metro.Ā

"Arts for All of Us" student poster contest šØ
Why is access to arts in schools important for Portland schoolchildren? Thatās the question the Arts Access Fund, part of Arts & Culture, is asking K-5 students to respond to in its āArts for All of Usā poster contest. In addition to an arts supply basket, the two winning posters will be displayed around Portland in March 2025 in celebration of Arts in our Schools month. Submissions are due January 10, 2025.

There's a brand new arts and events calendar in town šø
A new arts and events calendar powered by Travel Portland and Localist shines a light on events and exhibitions that are sponsored or supported in part by the City of Portland, including the Office of Arts & Culture, Prosper Portland, or the Events and Film Office.Ā
What's coming up? Little Shop of Horrors at Triangle Productions (November 29-30), Vivaldi's Four Seasons at The Schnitz (December 5), and Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm at Portland Art Museum (through January 19).Ā

DĆa de Muertos ofrenda at the Portland BuildingšÆļø
Arts & Culture is responsible for programming an exhibit space on the Portland Buildingās second floor. The office partnered with Latinx PDX, an employee resource group at the City, in October to install a beautiful DĆa de Muertos ofrenda that was up through mid-November.
DĆa de Muertos is a traditional fiesta honoring deceased family, friends, ancestors, and other loved ones thatās celebrated in Mexico and other parts of Latin America.Ā
