Project Update
The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is charging ahead with the Zero-Emission Delivery Zone (ZEDZ) pilot project. We continue to have great conversations with goods delivery leaders. This month, we’ll be broadening and deepening our outreach. We are launching a survey of ZEDZ goods delivery procurement, and over the next month, we’ll convene our first round of focus groups. We will hear from community members, downtown businesses, goods delivery recipients, and others. With targeted engagement and focused questions, we will continue to learn how strategies like a zero-emission delivery zone can provide opportunities to our communities.
PBOT is also evaluating video and sensor technologies to determine how to best meet the technical requirements of the project. Partners at Portland State University (PSU) recently completed 12 days of observation of commercial vehicle occupancy and patterns at some delivery zones and are preparing their analysis.
With support from PSU, we are also launching a survey of businesses in the area to better understand how goods are purchased and businesses receive goods. If you work within the ZEDZ and would like to have your voice heard, please send an email requesting the survey link.
