PBOT’s Gravel Street Service kicks off Phase 3 on Portland’s westside
 The Gravel Street Service improves the condition of Portland's gravel streets
(Nov. 12, 2020) Beginning Monday, PBOT maintenance crews will be on the Portland’s westside to start the third phase of the city’s Gravel Street Service.
The Gravel Street Service improves the condition of the 50 miles of unpaved gravel roads in Portland. These streets are not maintained by the city and over the years they have deteriorated, filling with potholes and ruts. As part of this free service, PBOT crews fill in ruts and potholes and grade and gravel the streets for a smoother surface. These smoothed-out streets help people more easily get around their neighborhoods and access their homes.
PBOT started the service in 2018 and has already completed over 31 miles of roads in Southeast, North and Northeast Portland. Thanks to the renewal of Fixing Our Streets, crews will continue the three-phase cycle starting in Winter 2021-2022.
On the westside, crews will start in Northwest Portland grading and graveling streets in an area stretching from the northern end of Forest Park, through Linnton and into the northwest industrial district. They will then move on to streets in Southwest.

Portlanders who live on a street getting Gravel Street Service should keep some important things in mind. They should look for the door hangers and “No Parking” signs PBOT will put out a few days before work start. While crews work, PBOT will limit some parking and restrict traffic in order to do the work safely and efficiently.
PBOT crews will work with residents to make sure they can still access their homes. If a resident needs to use the street for any reason while crews work, they should call the PBOT Front Desk at 503-823-5185 during regular business hours so they can let our Gravel Street team know.
NOTE ON COVID-19 AND CONSTRUCTION
The start of the pandemic forced a delay in our service as we adjusted our staffing and work activities to ensure our crews’ safety during the public health emergency. With new procedures in place to protect our crews and fellow Portlanders, we have now resumed the Gravel Street Service. Thank you for giving our crews the space and time they need to keep our city moving.
