Portland in the Streets, July 2019 Newsletter

National Night Out is almost here, register your block party today!

Block Party NE

National Night Out, August 6th 2019.

National Night Out (NNO) has been celebrated across North America on the first Tuesday of August since 1983. It's a day when people hold parties to strengthen community, create crime resistance, and get to know their neighbors and their local public safety officials. Every year, more than 20,000 people in Portland participate. In 2018, there were 67 Portland block parties registered with National Night Out!

Official date of NNO: August 6th, 2019

Residents and businesses have an option to host parties any day of the week from August 2nd-11th. Registration closes July 23rd, register today! Check out the Office of Community & Civic Life's website for more information.

You will also need a block party permit if you plan to close your street for National Night Out. Fill out the online block party application or visit the block party website for a paper application.

Project Showcase: Bridlemile Walkway

Bridlemile photo

Neighbors in Southwest Portland came together to create a beautiful new pathway that benefits the whole community.

                      Check out the Video!

A popular walking path in the Bridlemile neighborhood was overgrown with weeds and incredibly muddy, neighbors noticed and decided to make some positive changes. The community came together to design and implement a brand new gravel pathway and upgraded bridge. The finished product is a beautiful, clean and safe space for all to use.

The project was awarded funding through the Portland in the Streets Community Grant program, and was permitted through the Portland Pathways permitting program.

Portland in the Streets is excited to be at Knott Park for July's Sunday Parkways, look for us at the intersection of 117th and Brazee!

Stop by our tents to say hi, learn about our programs, and play our giant games (Jenga, connect four and corn hole). Need a quick break? Visit the reading nook or decorate the road with chalk.

July's special project - help us grow our tree of love

Personalize a leaf by telling us what you love about Portland, each leaf will help us build our tree.
