News Release:

Sunday Parkways, Portland's biggest street party, is back and bringing the fun to Southeast Portland.

(May 16, 2019) – Sunday Parkways, presented by Kaiser Permanente, kicks off a summer of fun on May 19th in Southeast Portland. This year’s route – a seven mile loop – links four of Southeast Portland’s favorite parks: Colonel Summers, Ivon, Sewallcrest and Laurelhurst.

Organized by the Portland Bureau of Transportation, Sunday Parkways, now in its twelfth year, is a beloved Portland tradition. Each summer, it brings Portlanders out on five Sundays to ride, walk, roll and dance in our streets and our parks.

Kaiser Permanente returns for the twelfth year as Founding and Presenting Sponsor of Sunday Parkways, kicking off the season with an Rx to Thrive, offering fun new ways to get healthy and active, as well as the popular Sticker Hunt. For the season's first event,  Kaiser Permanente is hosting a silent dance party with Trail Blazers’ DJ O.G. One in the “Music Is Medicine” booth at Laurelhurst Park, a flash mob of doctors in white coats on bikes, and “prescriptions” for healthy food, exercise, dance and play at four Kaiser Permanente event booths. Participants visiting all five Kaiser Permanente and Biketown booths will get a prize and a donation to mental health organizations in our community.

City bureaus will also there on Sunday to celebrate with Portlanders and share information about their activities and programs. At the Bureau of Environmental Services booth in Laurelhurst Park, Portlanders can learn about how they can protect local rivers and streams. The Office of City and Community Life, the Bike Theft Task Force, the Vision Zero Program and the Portland in the Streets program will also be at the event and looking to connect with Portlanders.

“The first Sunday Parkways of the season is always cause for excitement!" said Transportation Commissioner Chloe Eudaly. "What better way to celebrate our communities than by getting out into our streets and parks and having fun with thousands of our neighbors? I'll be in SE Portland this Sunday rain or shine, and I hope you will too!”

To make it easy for residents and visitors alike to join in the fun this weekend, PBOT has created a detailed Sunday Parkways route map with all area bikeway, bus and light rail routes to make it easy for everyone get to Sunday Parkways. It also includes information on the BIKETOWN stations and service areas along the route.
