We are proud to present the first edition of the Temporary Traffic Control manual. We created this manual to provide a maintained document to record the state of the practice of designing and executing temporary traffic controls in the City of Portland rights of way. We have also included typical applications that reflect Portland’s infrastructure. Lastly, we’ve documented typical work zone traffic control measures and the City’s practices regarding them.
Our goal is to provide everyone who must work in the street with the information necessary to carry out their tasks safely. It is our desire that all crews who work in the public rights of way set up safe work zones that consistently and clearly convey to pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists that work is being performed. All street users must receive a clear message from signs, cones, delineators, and barricades indicating where to travel and to slow down, creating a safer environment for everyone.
